CEDu 521 - Week 3
I'm really starting to love using Google Docs. I have started making all of my documents in there and started scrapping the flash drives, because I have about 4 of those all with different things on that it's hard to keep track. I also constantly worry about losing them, because I've lost one already and I don't want to go through that again. It's a wholesome feeling to know that my stuff is saved somewhere out there in cyberspace. I'm still pretty careful with it, and keep my budgettary and monetary matters on my home computer, but for work and personal documents, Google Docs is my new home. It's great to be able to make and share new stuff with my colleagues and have them both comment and change it as they see fit. Thanks for the suggestion, Dave.

I am getting more comfortable with Google Docs as well, but I still don't think I would give up my flash drive. I am pretty paranoid about losing it, and find myself checking the pocket in my bag a few times a day, but if the computer goes down, which ours has been doing a lot lately, I know that I at least have my work someplace else, and can take it to school to work if I have to.
ReplyDeleteI use Google Docs with my eighth grade students and it is an invaluable technology. We use it much the same way we use it at Stritch, and it is transforming the way the kids collaborate, manage documents, etc. I'm glad you find it worthwhile.

I am with you on this Matt. I was a bit leery of using Google Docs initially but they are a really useful tool, especially for collaboration. I thought using Google Presentation for the unit lesson was awesome. This is the first time I have used this app and found it very easy and user-friendly.
ReplyDeleteI must comment on your post as well. I never used google docs.....ever. When I first started this class I wasn't really sure how it worked, how others could edit, etc. I now feel much more comfortable trusting google keeping my files for me. I always had a hard time finding my flash drive or for that matter, losing it. And for your post on my blog, I totally not kidding that I thought I designed this really interesting/interactive lesson that I thought the kids would love. Only to be a complete flop in the end.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a pretty good idea Matt. I have two flash drives right now where I have all my school and personal documents stored and I'm thinking about switching to a google doc format for some of them. It seems like a lot of work to transfer everything. Maybe for my upcoming job I'll store all my documents on a google doc page, as long as it's not blocked by my district...
