Along with the RSS feeds, I've had some trouble getting into the material for this class. Part of it is that I already have so much experience with wikis and blogs. Part of it is that my life has been swamped with real life things and I haven't had a chance to focus on this class. Part of it is that I'm kind of getting sick of LMS classes at this time of year. Part of it is that I'm sick of staring at a computer screen. But for whatever reason(s) I've had a hard time getting into stuff this class.
But then I started getting into and finding RSS feeds that I'm really interested in. I went from really not liking this, to being able to get updates about the Packers and my favorite TV show that is making a comeback this month on Comedy Central. I've started liking the RSS feed feature and will probably pay more attention to it, especially in my recreational life.
As far as picture sharing online, it's really just taking my pictures one step further. I already put all of my digital pictures on my computer, so all that I really have to do is upload them. I'm kind of looking forward to this because I do like to take and share pictures, so this is a lot of fun - plus I'll get to go back through all of my old pictures now!
Don't lose heart Matt. The end is in sight! Earlier this week I was feeling pretty overwhelmed myself. I was having a hard time keeping track of what needed to go where, and it seemed like it was just too much. But, like you, once I started getting into the RSS feeds, it really got me hooked. Like your practicum teacher said, it really does take a lot of time (most of my Saturday) to think of and find the feeds I wanted to use. I know there will be more that I'll want to find...this is a work in progress.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about RSS feeds. I started subscribing to way too much stuff but like our textbook suggested I limited my subscriptions to ten. I tried to make some professional but also personal so that I'd be more apt to check my Reader. Thus far my favorite subscriptions is my celebrity gossip site! Would RSS be great for a current events assignment though? Imgaine the feeds on the Gulf oil spill--students could keep abreast of the latest news!
ReplyDeleteI think we all have a bit of "senioritus" with summer approaching and most of us taking classes through it makes it feel like we aren't gettting much of a vacation but we are done in December--there is light at the end of the tunnel!!!
I agree that some of this material can seem overwhelming and also repetitive, and now that it's summer time it is getting harder to concentrate and get the necessary work done. I have been enjoying RSS though. I had never heard of it and I'm still amazed at how many applications there are out there that I don't know about. I am finding it hard to keep up with all the information on the RSS feed. I have mixed business and pleasure on mine and the pleasure (jsonline, brewers, packers) has a lot more posts than the business ones.
